HATE CRIME synopsis, trailer, and posters.

HATE CRIME is a film that's flown under my radar up until I received a press release from its director, James Cullen Bressack. This home invasion/found footage flick has been making its rounds at festivals, and creating some waves. Apparently, it is so controversial that the film was nearly banned in the UK, and is currently having trouble finding distribution, so don't plan on seeing it just yet, unless it is scheduled at a film fest.

The Synopsis:
"A Jewish family, just arrived in a new neighborhood, are recording their youngest son's birthday celebrations on video when their home is suddenly invaded by a bunch of crystal-meth-crazed neo-nazi lunatics… "

More About the Film and Director:
"Fans have eagerly awaited release details on HATE CRIME, although there are still none yet we do have some posters for the film!

Attached are 5 official posters for the critically acclaimed AWARD WINNING found footage home invasion film HATE CRIME. This is the second feature film by 20 year old James Cullen Bressack, his first being the Amazon horror best seller MY PURE JOY which was released last year. Despite its name, Hate Crime is a labor of love from a dedicated group of people looking to make something different. Hate Crime is a violent, realistic portrayal of one of our worst nightmares, being attacked in our home. The movie has been extremely well received by over 80+ reviewers, including some of the biggest reviewers in the horror film community.

This film has fought a lot of controversy due to it's extreme content, almost being banned in the UK, being pulled off the screens at festivals before even showing, due to content and theatre management not willing to show the movie the festival booked, and has faced some trouble finding distribution since the shooting in CT.

We actually lost a distribution deal that was on the table due to that horrible tragedy. As Sinfullcelluloid.com put it: "...the film has won several awards and has a strong following. It has over 80 great reviews and no distribution. They even had an offer hold off the table the last minute." for the full article about HATE CRIME's shocking distribution woes please visit: SinfulCellulloid.com"

I'm personally not a huge fan of the found footage genre, and truthfully, I haven't seen many home invasion flicks, so this isn't something I'd actively seek out. Perhaps the trailer will change my mind?

The trailer mainly consists of ballyhoo... it doesn't offer up a solid reason for me to want to see the film. If anything, it is pretty much saying "WE DARE YOU TO SIT THROUGH THE FULL 73 MINUTES OF THIS MOVIE!" I've glanced around, and many of the reviews are positive (even the people who didn't like this movie have good things to say), so even though it doesn't seem like my cup of tea, if the opportunity presented itself, I'd give HATE CRIME a shot.

Finally, here are the posters that were just released for the film...

New Fright-Rags tees + FANTASM documentary in the works!

It has been far too long since I've given my friends at Fright-Rags any love. They've continued to supply the Horror community with an array of awesome shirts that just can't be topped. Their designs are unparallelled, their staff is insanely knowledgeable and friendly, and their company has continued to grow and cater to us Horror fans with highly collectible tees that are guaranteed to turn heads when seen in public.

And speaking of which, they have three new designs out that will make your mouth water. For fans of classic slasher cinema, there's a great new TERROR TRAIN shirt; fans of Stephen King will surely dig the new MISERY tee; there's even a hilarious new design that riffs on the Christmas classic "Home Alone," and features the SOUTH BEND SHOVEL SLAYER (a.k.a. Murphy). Each shirt comes in sizes Small to 5XL, and costs $21.95 apiece; scope out the designs below:

I never realized Kathy Bates was a Peter Gabriel fan.

I guess the "Wet Bandits" are now the "Dead Bandits?"

Awesome design though there is a distinct lack of David Copperfield on this shirt.

Also, as of my posting this, Fright-Rags still have less than 60 of their EVIL DEAD II: GROOVY EDITION COLLECTOR'S BOXES left in stock. For $37.95 you get a gorgeous t-shirt, prismatic sticker, and a "Home Sweet Home" magnet, all inside a cool Necronomicon box with artwork by Jeff Zornow! Once these are sold out, they are gone for good, so grab one now!

And finally, before I quit blogging for the night, I'd like to bring a new documentary to your attention, namely FANTASM. Directed by a gent named Kyle Kuchta, this doc looks to spread awareness about all the various Horror conventions happening across America, and show how tight-knit the Horror community is. As someone that has attended a handful of cons, I can attest to the family atmosphere they have. Every time you go you see familiar faces (some famous, some not) and you usually walk away with a few new friends and usually some pretty crazy/cool stories (especially if Gary Busey is on the premises).

Here's the teaser trailer to give you a taste of what's to come:

If you looked closely amongst the rapid-fire edits, you probably caught a few familiar faces, amongst shots of fans and cosplayers, including actor Tom Atkins (who is just an awesome human being), actress Heather Langenkamp, and Fright-Rags owner Ben Scrivens (and Kristy Jett, Fright-Rags' very own Director of Service & Sass). This comprehensive documentary (that is also Kyle's senior thesis to get his BFA in film) will feature interviews with celebrities and fans, and will hopefully bring more people out to visit the numerous conventions that have popped up over the years.

Kyle plans on completing FANTASM in May of this year, but still has some principal photography to shoot in March at MONSTER-MANIA CON at Cherry Hill, NJ (which is boasting CARRIE FISHER as well as a FREDDY VS. JASON reunion) and HORROR HOUND WEEKEND in Cincinnati, OH. So if you attend either con in March, YOU just may end up in the film!

Kyle, godspeed and good luck with your film; I hope I can get a chance to check it out!

FULL MOON NEWS: OOGA BOOGA, Valentine's Day Sale, and $1.99 streaming titles at GrindhouseFlix!

Racists beware! You won’t even have enough time to scream, “Ooga Booga!”

With the success of "Django Unchained," Charles Band has taken some inspiration (if the tagline at the top of the poster is any indication) and decided that the time has come for a new killer puppet/doll movie. Said film, entitled OOGA BOOGA revolves around the wrongful death of Devin, an African-American medical student, whose soul is transferred into an Ooga Booga action figure. Once inside the stereotypical-looking African doll, he seeks vengeance against his killers (dirty cops), meth heads, and corrupt city officials.

The film features Stacy Keach (holy cow... he's alive?!) and Karen Black (who's already had experience battling a killer Zuni fetish doll), and may be released sometime in February.

In other Full Moon news, they have branched off and started up a streaming video arm called GRINDHOUSEFLIX. As of my writing this, their subscription service costs $4.99 a month for unlimited streaming of weird and obscure cinema. However, if you don't want to sign up, you can "rent" one film at a time for a mere $1.99 or purchase them for $7.99 apiece. They currently have twenty titles available for streaming (such as "Necropolis," "Savage Island," and "Slavegirls from Beyond Infinity") and will be adding six more in the very near future, including: RETURN OF THE ZOMBIES, THE LEGEND OF THE WOLF WOMAN, TRAUMA, DEMONIAC, FEAR, and HEADLESS EYES.

Plus, if you sign up now for monthly unlimited streaming, you will get a $25.00 gift card to FULL MOON DIRECT! And that gift card will most definitely come in handy because....

Details about the sale have yet to be announced but I'll post about them as soon as I get the info. Stay tuned Full Moon fans!

New DVD & Blu-ray releases for 01/29/2013!

Well, today is (thankfully) one of those days where you can probably hang on to your hard-earned money. This week is pretty light on genre fare but there are a few highlights: Fox has re-released their "Die Hard" collection for the film's 25th anniversary (and because "A Good Day to Die Hard" hits theaters in two weeks) and I see no reason to double dip on this one. The only differences seem to be a fifth bonus disc and new (i.e. balder) cover art.

Blue Underground, taking a cue from other distributors, is putting out several new bare-bones, double feature discs in their Midnight Movies line, and Warner Home Video finally gives us the much-anticipated Part 2 to "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns." Other than that... there's not a whole heck of a lot to get excited about. See for yourself.

VOICES FROM THE GRAVE teaser trailer released!

I was nearly done emptying out my inbox of all the press releases, movie news, and other assorted fun stuff I get (e.g. offers for penile enhancement, breast enhancement, prescription drugs, porn, etc.), when I came across a press release concerning a new indie Horror anthology that is nearing completion, called VOICES FROM THE GRAVE.

Here's a quick synopsis:
"From master horror writer Gary Brandner, author of 'The Howling', and filmmakers Richard Stoudt and Laurence Holloway comes a relentlessly harrowing film experience. A trio of horrors that will make your flesh creep and your heart palpitate.
Deadly spirits, vengeful and maliciously spiteful give fuel to these tales of supernatural terrors. 'Invitation', based on a short story by Gary Brandner, tells the tale of loser Len Krager, who attends a party he'll never forget!
A vengeful spirit exacts revenge in the tale 'All Hallows' Eve'! An exercise in suspense and atmosphere. Robert Mundy doesn't celebrate Halloween since the accidental death of his brother on Halloween night. But this Halloween night, vengeance will rise and seek retribution.
Ghostly road hazards endanger a used car owner in the turbo-charged yarn 'Repossessed', a spine tingling 'vehicle' for absolute fright. Jeff purchases a killer car for a killer deal... unfortunately, the car really is a killer! A true exercise in style and terror, 'Voices from The Grave' will thrill and chill even the most jaded horror fan!"
It will thrill and chill even the most jaded horror fan?! That's some pretty big talk; I hope they can actually back that claim up! Let's take a gander at the newly released teaser trailer and see what "Voices from the Grave" has to offer.

Well, that was more of a highlight reel than a trailer, but I liked a lot of what I saw. Some of the effects work and camera angles/shots were pretty impressive! I'd definitely like to check this movie out, however at the moment, the film is still in production. It seems that principal photography and even the editing are pretty much done; all that's left is to finish work on the audio (foley and ADR) and put a soundtrack together!

I'll keep you all posted about a future DVD release date for "Voices." Until then you can visit the film's IMDB page for more info on the cast and crew, OR you can get further updates on the production by liking the Voices from the Grave Facebook Page!

A trio of must-see Sci-Fi shorts!

A close friend of mine (that goes by the moniker "Silent Steve" when we record film commentaries for my ongoing Riff Bros. web project) is constantly bombarding my Facebook wall with Youtube videos he discovers when he's bored. Recently he has rocked my world with three very cool sci-fi shorts that may or may not have escaped your eyes. Behold three fantastic tales with robotic warriors, alien worlds, and human mutations!

ARCHETYPE
Directed by Aaron Sims, this seven minute short reminds me heavily of "Robocop" (and to a much lesser extent, "Skyline"). A robotic soldier is being cross-examined by a superior (human) officer after it disobeyed orders and engaged an EMP amidst a battle. It turns out, that the war machine was once human itself and its memories of its past life are starting to come back. When threatened with having its mind erased, the eight-foot tall robot takes matters into his own hands.

MAN THAT IS SO COOL! It's a good concept, and I for one would readily shell out ten bucks to see a feature-length film featuring bionic robo-warrior battling those that would attempt to eradicate his humanity. Or at the very least, can we get a followup short or two to fully flesh this story out? Please?!

THE GATE
No, this doesn't have anything to do with "Stargate," and it doesn't have anything to do with classic 80's film with the creepy little demons and Stephen Dorff. This short revolves around a security meeting where those involved are discussing a minor outbreak of human mutations caused by medication the victims obtained from shady sources. Apparently long-term use of the substances triggered a dormant gene in human DNA, resulting in some pretty freaky man-sters.

So remember kids, don't buy cheap or untested pharmaceutical products off the web because the legit stuff you need is too expensive. Doing so may turn you into a evolutionary monstrosity!

I really like the idea behind this short film and apparently others did too, because Matt Westrup's "The Gate" is going feature-length! Congrats Matt; I for one am very much looking forward to seeing what else you bring to the table here.

R'HA
While the previous shorts had humans interacting with robots and mutants, the third one I'm sharing with you tonight is a very cool sci-fi tale featuring diabolical war machines who have turned against their creators: A race of multi-limbed reptilian humanoids. Check out this six and-a-half minute short from Kaleb Lechowski.

Oh man! Again another awesome concept, and what an ending! Even more shocking? This was created by a 22-year old German film student entirely by himself. The only thing he didn't do was the voice acting for the alien and the machine! Pat yourself on the back Kaleb; I have no doubt in my mind that you're going places!

So there you have it folks; three fantastic short films showcasing great effects and storylines that put most of the junk Hollywood makes to shame. Kudos to the men and women who created these works of cinematic art; here's hoping you all go far!

Upcoming Tempe DVD titles: AGENT BEETLE and ATTACK OF THE JURASSIC SHARK!

Tempe's PR department dropped me a line the other day with news about their next two upcoming DVD releases. Both films were directed by Brett Kelly, who did the "Attack of the Giant Leeches" remake, along with various other low budget genre flicks. Each disc will feature their respective films in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, have a theatrical trailer as an extra feature, and will be Region 0, meaning that they are playable worldwide!

First up is AGENT BEETLE:

Click for larger picture.
Synopsis: A rookie cop goes undercover at a drug company and poses as a criminal in order to get the information on a program that gives convicted felons superpowers. With his reporter ex-girlfriend on his trail, he must use his newly acquired powers to stop the program and bring its powerful convicts to justice!

Release Date: April 30,2013

Running Time: 80 minutes

Price: $19.99 (Pre-order it at Amazon.com!)

Next up is ATTACK OF THE JURASSIC SHARK:

Click for larger picture.
Synopsis: When an oil company unwittingly unleashes a prehistoric shark from its icy prison, the Jurassic killer maroons a group of art thieves and a group of beautiful young college students on an abandoned piece of land. The two opposing groups are forced to do what they can to survive or become food for the not-quite-extinct shark!

Release Date: May 28, 2013

Running Time: 79 minutes

Price: $19.99 (Pre-order it at Amazon.com!)

I've seen a few of Brett Kelly's movies (namely his two silly "Spacemen & Go Go Girls" short films) and I can vouch for his ability to do quite a bit with next to no budget. He's like a modern day Canadian Ed Wood. With that said, don't expect fantastic acting or jaw-dropping special effects (like I have to say that if you watched the trailers), but do expect to have some fun, especially if you round up a few friends and knock back a few brewskis.

Also, I'll admit that at $19.99 apiece, these two movies are kind of pricy (especially when you consider the quality of the films), but if you do pick them up, just remember that YOU are helping out a struggling independent filmmaker!

This Spring, beware of THE SCREAM MACHINE!

I recently received a press release from filmmaker Walter Ruether about his new Horror anthology, entitled "Scream Machine." Taking a cue from last year's surprise hit "V/H/S," Ruether's "Scream Machine" features five tales of terror that exist on various video tapes that are popped into a cursed VCR!

Here's the synopsis of the film:
FIVE OF THE DEADLIEST TALES EVER TOLD ON AN OLD HAUNTED VCR CALLED SCREAM MACHINE. (**OFFICIAL SELECTION PHOENIX COMIC CON 2012!**)
A battered and mysterious VCR... A bevy of lethal videotapes... These are the building blocks of horror in "SCREAM MACHINE." A mind blowing descent into madness and death. Five shocking vignettes, designed to take your sanity and devour your soul! Mild curiosity leads to severe consequences when a couple rents a supposedly cursed video cassette recorder. An urban legend renowned for leaving a trail of agonizing and torturous death. Unbelieving, they take the plunge... And another legend is horrifyingly born.
Do you dare give fate a winning hand, and test yourself against the hellish consequences of the SCREAM MACHINE?
Insert Cassette Press Play...DIE!
USA PREMIERE MAY 2013 PHOENIX COMIC CON-USA DVD RELEASE WITH WORLDWIDE MULTI MEDIA... SPRING 2013!
For additional information on the cast and director, visit the Scream Machine IMDB page. To keep up to date on the movie and its eventual Spring release, be sure to like the Scream Machine Facebook page.

What's that? Your curiosity is still not sated and you want to see some pics and a trailer? Well ask and you shall receive:

For a production that only cost around ten grand, that's some pretty impressive makeup f/x and gore. But you know, I kind of wish that this movie had some more eye candy. Like, oh say.... a smoking hot redhead dressed in a nurse's outfit or something....

Yeah! That's exactly what I was talking about!

Hooray! It's as if Walter Ruether's read my mind and put this gal into the movie just for me. I can't wait to see how she figures into things! I'm sure things will totally go her way; what's the worst that can happen to an attractive woman in a nurse's outfit in a Horror film?

NOOOO! My hopes and dreams have been crushed!

NOW PLAYING - HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS and JOHN DIES AT THE END.

January is the month where all the major studios dump their wretched refuse; this is the time of year where films go to theaters to die. The tradition continues with the release of HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. This gritty retelling of the classic fairy tale has the two famous children growing up to become professional witch hunters, which makes sense since they were nearly eaten by one in their youth. Using anachronistic weaponry (I don't think they had shotguns and Gatling guns back then), the two siblings deal out justice to those who would dabble in dark magics and ride on brooms. Check out the trailer below:

It looks like dumb fun, and part of me kind of wants to throw down $8 to $10 to see it. It's a cool concept, Gemma Arterton is hot (I've had a crush on her since the shitty Clash of the Titans remake - read my review for that here), the witch designs are interesting (it would seem no two witches are exactly alike... unless they are conjoined twins), there's explosions, and Jeremy Renner as medieval Hawkeye. (Much like Chris Hemsworth was "medieval Thor with an axe" in "Snow White and the Huntsman.") However, I'm tight on money at the moment, so I'll just patiently wait for the DVD release later this year.

Also out now is a film I've already seen and was totally perplexed by (I rented it off of Amazon last month). I've never read the novel that the film is based on, but apparently I should have according to most sources. JOHN DIES IN THE END is currently playing in limited theaters (most likely New York, Los Angeles, and a few other big cities). The trailer will definitely entice you to check it out:

The film follows two buddies named John and Dave who get caught in the middle of an interdimensional invasion. Along the way they have to deal with the dead, the undead, meat monsters, hallucinogenic drugs, alternate timelines, and gateways to other worlds. The movie is pretty crazy, but is an engaging piece of cinema that boasts a colorful cast, which includes Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown, and Doug Jones. Plus, it was directed by Don Coscarelli, who really needs to get on the ball and get "Phantasm 5" in the can before Angus Scrimm (who makes a cameo in "John Dies in the End") is too damned old to chase people and toss coffins into the back of a hearse!

I sort of "got" the movie, but apparently it meshes together a lot better if you've read the book. If you haven't, order it at Amazon.com, and give it a look. Got a Kindle? Then get the Kindle Edition.

That's pretty much all that's worth noting this week. If you're not up for either of these and are in the mood for cheesy/violent action flicks, there are plenty to choose from at the moment. Schwarzengger is back in action in "The Last Stand" (which won't be in theaters much longer since it flopped), Jason Statham is doing his usual thing in "Parker," and Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling (among others) gun down gangsters by the dozen in "Gangster Squad."

If you hit up the theaters this weekend, leave a comment below and share your thoughts on the movie(s) you saw. Was it good? Was it bad? Were there any good trailers before the film? Let us all know!

GORGO coming to Blu-ray on March 19th!

First off, a huge thanks to Kevin over at wtf-Film (which is sadly no longer updated) for sharing this on his Facebook page earlier today. Secondly... HOLY KAIJU SH*T! GORGO IS COMING TO BLU-RAY! And this isn't some cheapo DVD rip either; this is a legit "we totally give a f*ck about Gorgo" release!

VCI has released this title twice onto DVD (once in 2000 and then again in 2005) and each one had its flaws, which hopefully have been rectified now that they've supposedly gone back to original film elements and made an all new restoration for this release. We shall find out for sure on March 19th!

VCI's new disc promises a 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio in glorious HD, with enhanced 5.1 surround sound (with English and French audio options), and it will be PACKED to the gills with extras! (And it will sporting spiffy new cover art as well, as you can see..)

Special features on the disc include:
  • "Ninth Wonder Of The World: The Making Of Gorgo" a new documentary by Daniel Griffith
  •  Gorgo - Video Comic Book and Comic Book Cover Gallery
  •  Extensive Lobby Card & Poster Gallery
  • Photo Gallery
  • Gorgo Toys and Collectibles Gallery
  • Production Notes
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • Pressbook Gallery
  • Star Ciné Cosmos - French-language "fumetto" (comic book)
  • Before and After Restoration Video
I'm one of those crazy people who buys a new edition of a film every time it comes out in a new format, or even a new DVD/Blu-ray release, so I'll be picking this up! You can pre-order the all new sexy edition of GORGO (on Blu-ray or DVD) right now at Amazon.com for the low price of $14.99!

"In Fear" Sundance Poster unveiled + "Dead Sushi" gets LA theatrical release tomorrow!

I just received an e-mail that showcased the cool-looking poster art for IN FEAR which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, January 20th. The film stars Iain De Caestecker (U.K. TV show The Fades), Alice Englert (the forthcoming Beautiful Creatures), and Allen Leech (Downton Abbey), and tells the story of a young couple who gets lost in a maze of country roads and attempts to survive a night-turned-nightmare.

If you're attending the festival, or just curious about this particular movie and want to pop in to give it a look, here is the screening schedule for IN FEAR:
  • Sunday, January 20, Midnight, Egyptian Theatre, Park City
  • Sunday, January 22, 9:30pm, Broadway Centre Cinema 6, Salt Lake City
  • Monday, January 23, 11:30pm, Prospector Square Theatre, Park City
  • Tuesday, January 25, 11:30am, Redstone Cinema 2, Park City

Not gonna be making it to Sundance at all next week? Do you live in or around Los Angeles? If you answered yes to both then you can get a look at a new film from the insane mind of Director Noboru Iguchi called DEAD SUSHI! The film is playing at the The Downtown Independent from Friday, January 18th up until Thursday, January 24th. For the full listing of screenings CLICK HERE. View the batshit insane trailer HERE.

Synopsis: "Keiko, the daughter of a legendary sushi chef, runs away from home when his Karate-style regimen becomes too severe. Finding work at a rural hot springs inn, she is ridiculed by the eccentric staff and guests, including the employees of a pharmaceutical firm there on a work retreat. But little do they know that a disgruntled former researcher has also come to the inn with a plan for revenge, using a serum he developed that can awaken the murderous instincts of ordinary sushi, turning it into bloodthirsty monsters! Keiko must use both her sushi training and her martial arts skills to save the others and defeat the flying killers.

From the director of “Machine Girl”, “Robogeisha” and “The ABCs of Death,”Noboru Iguchi brings us his latest horror film, DEAD SUSHI, an official selection of Fantastic Fest 2012, Fantasia Film Festival 2012, Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival 2012 and Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2012."

For everyone else, the only way you will see this flick next week is if you buy the DVD (pre-order it now at AMAZON.COM). The DEAD SUSHI Blu-ray will not be out until March 26th (pre-order it at AMAZON.COM for $13.49), unless you come across it at Best Buy, as it will be a "Best Buy Exclusive." The disc is unrated and offers up Behind the Scenes footage as an extra feature, plus two audio tracks and English subtitles. It's cost should be around $14.99.

It sounds like a fun and crazy movie, but pales in comparison to MONSTER ROLL, a short film/trailer about giant sea monsters battling kung-fu sushi chefs for the fate of Japan! The idea is hilariously awesome and the CGI work is fairly well done. Check it out for yourself below:

Late but genius marketing: V/H/S coming out on VHS!

In a bold (but rather late) marketing move, Magnet Releasing has decided to release "V/H/S" on VHS! While this may seem like a no brainer, I am pretty surprised that they are doing this.

VHS has long been considered a dead format, but like the creatures that lurked on many of the video tapes we rented in our youth, the format just keeps coming back from the dead. (I should note that 2009's "House of the Devil" came out in a limited DVD/VHS combo; also Troma president Lloyd Kaufman released his studio's flagship film, "The Toxic Avenger," in a limited edition big box VHS last year.)

There's no word on a release date, or if VHS copies of "V/H/S" will be limited in number (making them highly collectible), but once I heard something I'll most definitely post it here.

As for the film itself, I got the Blu-ray for Christmas but still have yet to watch it. It seems to have had a polarizing effect on the Horror community; there's no middle ground when it comes to this movie. You either love it or you hate it. It has my curiosity and will perhaps soon have my full attention. Regardless about how you feel about this movie, it's clear that it must have done pretty well because the sequel, "S-VHS" is already in the works and due out later this year!

Haunting in Connecticut 2 trailer, poster, and pics.

I recently received a digital press kit for Lionsgate's sequel to "The Haunting in Connecticut" (which I skipped seeing because it didn't look all that great; plus I get annoyed when movies use the entire "Based on True Events" marketing ploy), entitled "The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia." Wait what? Do Georgian ghosts haunt a home in Connecticut? No? Then why the hell didn't you call this "The Haunting in Georgia?!" I guess the marketing team wanted "brand recognition?"

Here's the plot synopsis for A Not Haunting in Connecticut 2:
"A young family is tormented by the horrors of the past in THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT 2: GHOSTS OF GEORGIA, a chilling new film based on a true story from Lionsgate and Gold Circle Films.
Building on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray, House of Wax) moves his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer, TV’s “Mad Men”) and daughter Heidi to an historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants. Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff, TV’s “Battlestar Galactica”), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire…a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path."

I'm guessing that the true story portion of this supernatural tale of terror is probably that there was actually an underground railroad that allowed slaves to sneak their way safely to the Northern States. So technically the promotional materials aren't lying....

Also, Katee Sackhoff playing the "free-spirited sister" means she's probably a whore in this movie. Nerds who write sexy "Battlestar Galactica" fan-fic and fantasize about all the actresses on the show take note: You may see Starbuck's boobs! (Mind you, this is just my theory and has yet to be confirmed.)

Ok, yeah I'm probably being harsh here, so let's take a look at the trailer shall we?

Hmmm..... yeah looks like your typical supernatural direct-to-DVD fare. It doesn't look awful but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to scope it out. Unless, Sackhoff nudity is confrmed; then I'll rent it and fast forward through it.

I may not be psyched out this film's existence, but if the poster and trailer have caught your eye, then here's a few photos from the film to get you even more psyched. Enjoy!

"Do you know how fast you were driving ma'am?"

This is what happens when you give a Cenobite a BJ.

Not actually Christian Slater, but an incredible simulation.
The release date for this sequel is FEBRUARY 1ST! It'll be getting a limited theatrical run (LA, NY, maybe a few other larger cities) and will also be available on VOD services. In the meantime, why not give the previous entry a quick look? It's pretty cheap over at Amazon.com right now on both DVD and Blu-ray, but if you don't want to buy it, why not give it a digital rental?

Press Release: LINNEA QUIGLEY SCREAMS THRU GRINDHOUSE DOUBLE FEATURE

Attention Horror fans, next week you can pick up a cool triple feature, starring 80's scream queen Linnea Quigley! Here's all the juicy info about this new DVD release:

"Scream Queen Linnea Quigley is no stranger to shock and splatter. The 1980s horror icon, inducted into Fangoria Magazine’s “Hall of Fame,” has been possessed, returned from the dead, pierced on antlers by a killer Santa and was even trapped inside Freddy Krueger’s chest. Coming to DVD from rapidheart.com  Tuesday, January 22, 2013 are three of the actresses long-lost cult classic terror-fests, NIGHTMARE SISTERS, DEADLY EMBRACE, and the gruesome MURDER WEAPON.

NIGHTMARE SISTERS– The camp horror classic that became one of USA’s UP ALL NIGHT most popular broadcasts returns after a decade in moratorium! Three innocent college girls (Quigley, Brinke Stevens of THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE and Michelle Bauer of HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS) become sorority succubus sisters when possessed by an evil spirit. It’s up to their geeky boyfriends to turn the sudden sexpots with killer bites back into the dorkalicious babes they know and love. Richard Gabai (VIRGIN HIGH) and Michael Sonye (FRIDAY THE 13TH) also star.

DEADLY EMBRACE– When a desperate housewife hires a hunky college guy (Ken Abraham, CREEPOZOIDS) to repair her home, she quickly attempts to seduce him. However, when his sprite young girlfriend (Quigley) shows up for a long, hot weekend of sex, jealousy and obsession consume the housewife, spiraling into a spree of kidnap, torture and murder. Also featuring an all-star cast of cult favorites Ruth Collins (PSYCHOS IN LOVE), Jan-Michael Vincent (AIRWOLF), Ty Randolph (BATMAN RETURNS), Michelle Bauer (PUPPET MASTER III), and Jack Carter (ALLIGATOR).

MURDER WEAPON– Two criminally insane mob daughters (Quigley and DICK TRACY’s Karen Russell), fresh out of the asylum, gather their ex-boyfriends claiming a desire for reconciliation. In truth, the temptresses have a need to avenge their broken hearts and satisfy an unending bloodlust. Also features Lyle Waggoner (THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW) and Eric Freeman (SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, PART 2). Showing one of cinema’s most gruesome sledgehammer-to-the-head murders, this long-sought after title is available for the first time on DVD.

Loaded with sex and violence, all three films are featured in the hit documentary SCREAMING IN HIGH HEELS, currently airing on NBCUniversal’s Chiller TV, generating interest with horror fans old and new. The LINNEA QUIGLEY GRINDHOUSE TRIPLE FEATURE, available through amazon.com and other major retailers, is 240 minutes of unbridled fun and fear, including new commentary tracks on each film by Quigley and director David DeCoteau."
